Educational and Professional Background
Janis Ban MSW is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker. She received her BA in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1972 and her MSW from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1974. She has worked for the University of Wisconsin Adolescent Clinic and Children's Hospital, the Jewish Family and Child Service in Seattle, Northwest Youth Services, and The Psychiatric Practice of Robert Watson MD and Kathryn Brown CRN in Bellingham. She has also taught parenting classes through the Bellingham Technical College. She has been in private practice in Bellingham for over 25 years. She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers and The EMDR International Association.
While her approach to therapy is eclectic, Janis has training in psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and family systems approaches to therapy. She also has post-graduate training in EMDR.
