Educational and Professional Background

Catherine Strong, Ph.D, is a licensed psychologist, educated at the University of Chicago (PhD, 1983, MA, 1976) and the University of Washington (BA, 1972). Dr. Strong is trained in the areas of clinical diagnosis; psychotherapy (among others: interpersonal, existential, cognitive-behavioral analysis, psychodynamic); and in the study of how physical health, mental health, and social and cultural variables interact. She has been in private practice since 1983, and from 1978 to 1983 worked at a community mental health clinic as a geriatric specialist. She is a member of her state (WSPA) and national (APA) organizations, including APA's Division of Clinical Psychology.

Dr. Strong works with adults only, in individual, couples (marital or partners), and family therapy. Her approach includes clinical interview assessment, psychotherapy, education, and coordinating care with other professionals when needed. Within a compassionate and professional relationship, she supports the client's search to better understand past and present experiences, to know and use his or her strengths, and to find positive ways to relieve suffering and cope with current stresses.
